No labor Day is nice, but No labor life, no we're talking.

Happy Labor Day weekend Saturday everybody.  I didn't think I was going to, but I have a couple minutes and a quick thought on today's lectionary passages.  As always, the lectionary passages can be found here: http://gamc.pcusa.org/devotion/daily/2010/9/4/
So as we are hopefully all enjoying a little rest from our 'labors' (whatever they make look like) this weekend, today's passage from Acts struck me:
38Let it be known to you therefore, my brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you; 39by this Jesus everyone who believes is set free from all those sins from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.
So, the question that immediately came to my mind was this: do you feel free?
And I guess what I want to say is that if we don't feel free then we haven't really given all of our burdens or 'labors' over to God.  If you aren't feeling free from labor or sin or anything else this weekend, I invite you to give it up to God - whatever it is, a sin you have been struggling with, a worry about your finances, the health of a loved one, the stress and pressure of work or family - give it over to God - really, literally by saying the words in prayer and asking God to lift the burden from you and/or cleanse the sin off you.
God is always faithful, God always comes through.  We really are freed from our sins, from our burdens and from our labors.  If we aren't feeling that way, something is a miss on our end.
So this weekend, instead of just taking a 'break' from your burdens, labors, worries, or sins - how about getting rid of them for good.
Have a great day - and weekend all.  You may or may not hear from me tomorrow, but I will definitely be back to the Bible blogging at some point on Monday.
